Inspection

Inspection services that hold up to the code, the auditor and the next turnaround

Plant owners and fabricators do not buy an ultrasonic reading; they buy a decision they can defend. Whether a vessel goes back into service, whether a weld is accepted, when the next inspection is due. Atlantis NDT plans and delivers inspection to that end, from single-method NDT call-outs to inspection programmes that run across the life of an asset, with the work led by ASNT Level III personnel and reported against the code that governs it.

Level III-led

Procedures, technique sheets and acceptance decisions are owned by ASNT Level III personnel, not left to the technician on the day.

Code-referenced reporting

Every report states the procedure, the code edition and the acceptance criteria applied, so findings survive an audit.

One scope, many methods

Conventional NDT, advanced UT and electromagnetic methods, asset integrity engineering and personnel supply under one point of contact.

Why owners and contractors bring us in

Most inspection failures are planning failures. The method was right for one damage mechanism and blind to the one that was actually active; coverage was recorded as “as accessible” with no note of what was not accessible; the report gave readings without the minimum required thickness to judge them against. We start from the damage mechanisms and the governing code, choose methods and coverage to suit, and write reports that carry the reasoning as well as the result.

The same team can then take the work further: feeding results into remaining-life and interval calculations, updating a risk-based inspection plan, or supplying the inspectors who carry the programme on site.

How an engagement runs

  • Scope review: equipment list, design data, operating conditions, inspection history and the client’s specifications.
  • Inspection plan: damage mechanisms, methods, coverage, acceptance criteria and the procedures that will be used.
  • Mobilisation: procedures and technician certifications submitted for client approval; permits and access agreed.
  • Execution: inspection to the approved procedures, with daily progress and any reportable finding raised the same day.
  • Reporting: code-referenced reports, thickness data in a reusable format, and recommendations in the language of the governing code.

Codes and standards we work to

API 510, API 570 and API 653 for in-service pressure vessels, piping and storage tanks; API 571, API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, API 580/581 and API 584 for damage mechanisms, fitness-for-service, risk and operating windows; ASME Section V, VIII and B31.3, AWS D1.1 and API 1104 for construction and fabrication; NBIC and ASME PCC-2 for repairs; and the client’s own specifications on top.

Personnel and procedures

Inspection work is planned and supervised by ASNT Level III personnel. Our founder holds ASNT NDT Level III in UT, RT, MT, PT and VT. Technicians are qualified and certified to the employer’s written practice under ASNT SNT-TC-1A, or to ISO 9712 or the client’s own scheme where the contract requires it, and each technician’s certification is submitted for the client’s review before work starts.
