NDT Inspection Management Software for Inspection Companies in Saskatchewan
Short answer: The Atlantis ERP solution gives Saskatchewan NDT and inspection companies one system for technician certifications (CAN/CGSB-48.9712, SNT-TC-1A, CP-189 and more), equipment calibration, crew dispatch to oilfield, potash, refinery and mine sites, offline NDT reports, timesheets and invoicing. It is customized to each company and set up remotely, typically in 2 to 4 weeks from kickoff depending on how clean your existing records are. Affordable. Accessible. Fully customizable. Book a Saskatchewan demo.
Most Saskatchewan inspection companies are small or mid-sized and based in Regina, Saskatoon, Estevan or Lloydminster, but their crews cover the whole province. Distances are long, sites are rural, winter is hard on equipment and people, and the client list mixes oil producers, potash miners, a refinery, steel and pipe makers, utilities and uranium operators. Each of those clients runs its own contractor prequalification, wants its own report format and audits a different part of your paperwork. This page covers the Saskatchewan market, the regulators and schemes your records have to satisfy, what the Atlantis ERP actually does, and how a remote implementation works.
Three industries drive NDT demand in Saskatchewan
Direct answer: Saskatchewan NDT work comes from oil and gas (heavy oil around Lloydminster, light oil in the southeast Bakken and the southwest, pipelines and gathering systems), mining (potash across the centre and south, uranium in the Athabasca Basin) and processing and manufacturing (the Regina refinery, pipe and steel making, fertiliser, power generation and agricultural equipment).
Oil and gas. The Lloydminster area on the Alberta border is built on heavy oil, with Cenovus's Lloydminster upgrader and asphalt refinery processing local crude. The southeast around Estevan and Weyburn produces light oil from the Bakken and older fields, including the Weyburn CO2 enhanced oil recovery project. The southwest around Kindersley and Swift Current has its own light-oil and gas plays. All of this means batteries, treaters, separators, tanks, compressor stations and thousands of kilometres of flowlines and gathering lines that need weld inspection during construction and thickness and corrosion surveys in service. The Enbridge mainline also crosses the province, with terminals and pump stations along the route.
Potash and uranium. Saskatchewan holds the largest potash reserves in the world. Nutrien operates several mines around Saskatoon, including Allan, Cory and Lanigan, and Rocanville in the southeast; Mosaic operates at Esterhazy and Belle Plaine; K+S runs the Bethune mine; and BHP is building the Jansen mine east of Saskatoon. Potash mills have brine-handling vessels, crystallisers, evaporators, dryers, hoists and headframes where corrosion and fatigue are constant concerns. In the north, Cameco and Orano operate uranium mines and mills in the Athabasca Basin, which are licensed by the CNSC and bring fly-in work with strict site rules.
Processing, power and manufacturing. The Co-op Refinery Complex in Regina is the province's major refinery, with regular turnarounds. Evraz in Regina makes steel and large-diameter pipe. SaskPower runs coal, gas and hydro stations, including Boundary Dam near Estevan with its carbon capture unit, and gas plants that need boiler and piping inspection. Fertiliser and chemical plants, ethanol and canola crushing plants, and agricultural equipment manufacturers add steady fabrication and in-service NDT.
For an inspection company this means crews that might do radiography on a flowline tie-in near Estevan one day and a UT thickness survey in a potash mill near Saskatoon the next. The business has to know at all times who is certified for what, which instruments are calibrated, where each crew is and what each client will be billed.
Regulators and codes your records must satisfy
Direct answer: Boilers and pressure vessels in Saskatchewan are regulated by the Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan (TSASK) under The Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act, 1999. Pipelines and flowlines are licensed by the Ministry of Energy and Resources under The Pipelines Act, 1998, with CSA Z662 as the technical standard. Radiography and uranium sites fall under the CNSC, and interprovincial pipelines under the Canada Energy Regulator.
TSASK is an arm's-length agency that administers The Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act, 1999 and its regulations, registers pressure equipment designs, and inspects boilers and pressure vessels. CSA B51 is the construction code. See our notes on TSASK compliance, CSA B51 and CRN registration. Saskatchewan's pipeline regime changed significantly after a 2016 amendment brought flowlines, the lines from wellheads to batteries and facilities, into licensing. For contractors that means more integrity and construction records attached to flowline work. CSA Z662 sets the design, construction and inspection requirements.
Industrial radiography needs a CNSC licence, and exposure device operators need CNSC certification. The CNSC also licenses the uranium mines and mills, so contractors working there face nuclear-site training and access rules on top of normal safety prequalification. Saskatchewan's Occupational Health and Safety rules apply on every site.
On personnel certification, Canadian industrial clients expect CAN/CGSB-48.9712 certificates. The Canadian General Standards Board, which published the standard, closed on 1 April 2026; CAN/CGSB-48.9712 remains valid, but confirm the current certification body for renewals. US-owned operators and pipe or equipment makers selling into the US often want an ASNT SNT-TC-1A written practice as well. Fabricators certified to CSA W47.1, and inspection organisations certified to CSA W178.1, add their own record requirements.
What Saskatchewan clients check before and during a job
Direct answer: Producers, miners and the refinery expect prequalification (safety programme, insurance, often a contractor-management platform), current personnel certificates, calibration certificates for every instrument, approved procedures, and daily reports and timesheets on the job. Potash and uranium sites add their own site training and access records.
A producer in the southeast wants to see that the radiography crew's CNSC certifications and dosimetry records are current before they arrive at a tie-in. A potash mine wants the UT technician's certificate and the thickness gauge's calibration certificate in its contractor file, and wants readings it can file against its equipment numbers. The refinery wants a turnaround crew with valid site orientations on a fixed date, plus daily progress. A pipe mill's customer may want inspection records tied to specific heats or lots.
Saskatchewan firms often keep this together with spreadsheets, a shared drive and accounting software. The weak point is the connection between them. A certificate that lapsed last week is visible in the spreadsheet only if someone looks, and nothing stops that technician being sent out. The Atlantis ERP connects certificates, equipment, jobs, timesheets and invoices so problems show up at the point of dispatch or approval, not in an auditor's finding.
What the Atlantis ERP does for Saskatchewan NDT companies
Direct answer: The ERP covers certification tracking, vision tests, equipment and calibration control, crew dispatch with clash checks, offline method-specific NDT reports, procedures, quoting, timesheets and invoicing. The table lists common Saskatchewan needs against built-in features; anything not listed is configured during implementation.
| Need in Saskatchewan | How the Atlantis ERP handles it |
|---|---|
| Certificates current before a crew drives three hours to site | Certificate status computed automatically (active, expiring soon within 90 days, expired, revoked); warning tasks and email alerts ahead of expiry; timesheet warning if a certificate is not valid. |
| Radiography crew paperwork | CNSC exposure device operator certificates recorded with expiry; employee profile with radiation safety training and radiation badge number; fleet records for vehicles that can carry sources, with transport licence and expiry. |
| Calibration across a scattered equipment pool | Instruments by serial number with holder, lifecycle and calibration status; calibration records and certificate register with due dates and alerts; warning when assigned equipment is out of calibration. |
| Crews and kit booked across Regina, Saskatoon and Estevan | Team assignments with dispatch stages and mobilisation dates; availability calendar; double-booking of technicians and equipment serial numbers blocked. |
| Reports from rural sites without signal | Offline field app storing drafts and photos locally and syncing later; on-screen signature. |
| Thickness surveys for potash and refinery equipment | UT thickness report with readings by direction; client-specific Excel templates filled by mapping fields to cells. |
| Weld inspection on flowlines and pipe | RT, UT, PAUT, MT and VT reports with weld lines, defect type and orientation, WPS and drawing references, and acceptable or not acceptable results. |
| Billing travel and standby fairly | Timesheets by work type (inspection, travel, standby, setup) with billable flag and rate multiplier feeding invoice lines by method, technician and equipment serial. |
Each app is described on the ERP apps page, including NDT reports, asset management, timesheets and fleet. The overview is on the Atlantis ERP page.
Certification tracking for CGSB, ASNT and CNSC certificates
Direct answer: Each technician can hold any number of certificate records, each with scheme, level, method, certifying body, dates, hours and attachments. CGSB certificates are recorded under the ISO 9712 scheme; SNT-TC-1A and CP-189 under their own; CNSC exposure device operator certificates as separate records so they get the same expiry status and alerts.
In a typical Saskatchewan crew, a radiographer holds a CGSB RT certificate and a CNSC exposure device operator certificate; a UT technician holds CGSB UT and an employer SNT-TC-1A certificate for a US-owned client; an apprentice is logging OJT hours toward Level 1. The certificate app records the scheme, the level (trainee, I, II or III), method, certifying body, industry sector, issue, expiry and renewal dates, OJT hours, training hours, exam result and scanned attachments for each one.
Vision tests are separate records with near vision (Jaeger J1/J2), far vision, colour perception, contrast, examiner, clinic and expiry. Daily checks create warning tasks 90 days before a certificate or vision test expires, and configurable daily emails go to the people you choose, with your own look-ahead and resend settings. Certificate templates per scheme hold validity periods, exam and vision requirements and minimum OJT and training hours, which helps when you are bringing trainees through to Level 1 and 2 under a written practice. Examination sheets record general, specific and practical scores.
Company certifications, such as ISO 9001 or CSA W178.1, have their own alert days. If your written practice or procedures need review by an outside Level III, see NDT consulting across Canada. Atlantis training is ASNT SNT-TC-1A based (NDT training in Canada); it does not train toward CGSB certification.
Equipment and calibration in a cold, spread-out province
Direct answer: The asset app tracks every instrument and probe by serial number, who has it, its condition and lifecycle stage, its maintenance history and its calibration status. Issue and return need supervisor and manager approval, reservations prevent clashes, and consumables have reorder levels.
Saskatchewan winters are hard on gear. Cables crack, batteries fail, screens fog and probes get dropped on frozen ground. When equipment lives in trucks that come back to base once a week, it is easy to lose track. The asset app records equipment type, asset tag, firmware, accessories and lifecycle (new, active, in calibration, in repair, rented out, retired, disposed). Condition is recorded on issue and return, so damage is traced to a job. The maintenance log covers preventive and corrective work, repairs, cleaning, firmware updates and probe replacement with condition before and after.
Calibration records hold provider, certificate number, standard, range, uncertainty, accredited-lab flag, pass, fail or conditional result and next due date. The calibration certificate register shows valid, expiring and expired status, holds the PDF and sends expiry alerts. Calibration labs can be set up as vendors with accreditation number and expiry, and purchase orders can be tied to a specific equipment serial. Consumables like couplant, film, penetrant, developer and PPE carry reorder levels and a movement ledger.
Out-of-town radiography also involves vehicles. The fleet app records vehicle purpose, whether it can carry radioactive sources, transport licence number and expiry, and assignment to a project or driver with dates and mileage.
Dispatch, reports and billing from Regina, Saskatoon or Estevan
Direct answer: Jobs are projects with client PO, site, methods, codes and scope, dispatched as team assignments to technicians and equipment checked for clashes and calibration. Reports are written offline and go through review and approval with signatures. Approved timesheets feed invoices with labour, equipment and consumables subtotals.
A typical week: the Regina office books a turnaround crew for the refinery, a two-person RT crew for a flowline tie-in near Estevan, and a UT technician for a potash mill near Saskatoon. Each job is a team assignment with GPS coordinates, mobilisation and demobilisation dates and status (planned, dispatched, in field, submitted, closed). Calendar, kanban and list views show who is where. If the UT technician is already booked or on leave, the booking is blocked; if the only calibrated thickness gauge is reserved elsewhere, that clash shows up too.
On site, technicians fill method-specific reports in the offline app, with photos and on-screen signatures. Seventeen report types are built in, including RT with source, technique and IQI details, UT with probe calibration, PAUT focal laws, MFL scan modes for tank floors, UT thickness readings by direction and computed radiography. Reports go from draft to review, approval and sent, with inspector, reviewer and approver signatures and, if needed, a third-party inspector's name and signature.
Timesheets record inspection, travel, standby and setup separately with method, site, client and equipment serial, then go through approval. Invoices carry the NDT project, job or PO number, site, industry sector and lines by cost centre, method, technician, equipment serial, rate type and days or hours. Taxes, including GST and Saskatchewan PST, are configured during implementation. The financial dashboard shows revenue, margin, expenses and outstanding invoices across a 12-month view.
Scope, compliance and data questions
Direct answer: The ERP holds the evidence clients and regulators ask for but does not certify your company to anything. It does not do RBI, fitness-for-service, API 510/570/653 interval or corrosion-rate calculation, or TML/CML databases. Hosting and data-residency questions from Crown corporations and other clients are discussed during scoping.
Procedures are held in a register with number, revision, method, scope, material, standard and acceptance criteria, moving through draft, submitted, reviewed, approved and published stages. Approved revisions are locked, earlier revisions are kept as snapshots, and approvers get reminders. An AI-assisted first draft is available, which your Level III then reviews and approves. NCR/CAPA workflows can be configured during implementation to match your quality manual.
SaskPower, SaskEnergy and other Crown corporations, as well as large miners, may have contract terms on where data is stored and who can access it. Those are agreed during scoping. For presenting inspection data on a 3D model of a client's asset, see Digital Twin Reporting and digital twins in Regina.
Implementation and integrations
Direct answer: Implementation is remote and typically takes 2 to 4 weeks from kickoff; it depends on how clean your existing records are. The ERP has an open REST API and integrates with SAP, Maximo, NetSuite, QuickBooks or any system that accepts API connections, scoped per implementation.
A scoping call covers methods, schemes, clients, report formats and accounting. You then supply technician and certificate data, vision tests, equipment lists and calibration certificates, procedures and client details. Certificate and calibration files are usually the slowest part to gather. Configuration follows: certificate templates, alert recipients, report templates for key clients, invoice layout and taxes. Office staff learn dispatch, quoting and invoicing; technicians learn the offline app.
Many small Saskatchewan firms already use QuickBooks; larger clients run SAP or Maximo. The REST API lets the ERP exchange data with those systems, and the field-device API handles jobs, issued equipment, report submission and sync. What is connected is agreed and quoted on request.
Spreadsheets vs generic ERP vs Atlantis ERP
Direct answer: Spreadsheets are cheap to start but disconnected. Generic ERP handles accounting and stock but not NDT certificates, calibration warnings or method-specific reports. The Atlantis ERP is configured for NDT companies and customized to yours.
| Question | Spreadsheets | Generic ERP | Atlantis ERP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expired certificate caught before dispatch | Only if someone checks | Custom work | Timesheet warning, alerts, Expired menu |
| Out-of-calibration gauge caught before dispatch | Manual | Not standard | Warning at assignment |
| Same instrument booked twice | Common | Partial | Blocked |
| Offline RT, UT and thickness reports | Paper or Word | Not included | Built in |
| Travel and standby on invoices | Manual | Configurable | Timesheets feed invoices |
| Commercial terms | Low cost, high admin time | Varies | Affordable, quote on request |

Frequently asked questions
What is the best ERP for an NDT company in Saskatchewan?
One that links certificates, calibration, dispatch, offline reports and invoicing, and copes with rural sites. The Atlantis ERP is built for NDT companies and customized to each one.
Can it track CGSB and ASNT certificates for the same technician?
Yes. Each certificate is its own record with its own status. CGSB sits under the ISO 9712 scheme, alongside SNT-TC-1A, CP-189 and others.
Is CAN/CGSB-48.9712 still valid after the CGSB closure?
Yes. The Canadian General Standards Board, the standards publisher, closed on 1 April 2026, but CAN/CGSB-48.9712 remains the national certification scheme. Confirm the current certification body for renewals; the ERP records whichever body issued each certificate.
Does it work without cell coverage?
Yes. The field app stores drafts and photos on the device and syncs when there is a connection.
Can it track CNSC certifications and radiation badges?
Yes. CNSC exposure device operator certificates can be recorded with expiry, and employee profiles hold radiation safety training and badge number.
Does it support TSASK requirements?
It keeps the certificates, calibration records, procedures and signed reports TSASK-regulated owners and their contractors are asked for. It does not certify your company.
How long does implementation take?
Typically 2 to 4 weeks from kickoff, depending on how clean your records are. It is done remotely.
Does it calculate corrosion rates for potash or refinery equipment?
No. It records UT thickness readings in reports but does not calculate corrosion rates or inspection intervals, and has no RBI or fitness-for-service module.
Will it work with QuickBooks?
Yes. QuickBooks, SAP, Maximo, NetSuite and similar systems connect through the REST API, scoped per implementation.
Can we keep data in Canada?
Hosting location and data residency are discussed during scoping.
How much does it cost?
It depends on users, apps and integrations. Quotes are given on request.

Built for any business that runs on operations
Most companies do not fail at their craft. They lose time, margin and goodwill in the gaps between the tools they use to run the place — a quoting spreadsheet that does not talk to the job sheet, a job sheet that does not reach accounts, and a compliance folder nobody can search when a client asks. Atlantis closes those gaps by putting the whole operation on one platform, so information is entered once and everything downstream stays in step.
What you can run on it
- Sales and CRM — leads, quotes, follow-ups and the pipeline that tells you what next month looks like.
- Projects and job costing — plan the work, track the hours and materials against it, and see the margin while the job is still live rather than at final account.
- Field and service teams — dispatch, schedules, mobile capture that works with no signal, and sign-off from site.
- Inventory and purchasing — stock, suppliers, reorder points and goods receipt, joined to the jobs that consume them.
- People — records, qualifications and licences with renewal reminders, timesheets, leave and payroll.
- Quality and documents — procedures and forms under revision control, with the audit trail an inspection or accreditation body actually asks for.
- Accounts — invoicing, expenses, multi-currency and the reporting your accountant stops chasing you for.
Affordable, accessible, fully customizable — and we mean each word
Affordable because the whole suite is included rather than sold to you a module at a time, and because implementation is done by people who have run operations rather than by a chain of subcontractors. Accessible because it runs in a browser and on a phone, works for a small team on day one, and does not need a specialist on staff to keep it alive. Fully customizable because your process is the thing that makes you competitive — the software should bend to it, not the other way round.
Industries we configure for
Service businesses and contractors, manufacturing and fabrication, trading and distribution, laboratories and testing houses, engineering consultancies, construction and facilities, and asset owners across energy, marine, aerospace and infrastructure. Inspection and testing is where we started, and it remains the sector we go deepest in — but the platform underneath is general-purpose, and most of what it does has nothing to do with inspection at all.
What happens when you get in touch
A short conversation, not a sales sequence. We ask how the business runs today and where it hurts, show you the platform doing that work, and send a written quote shaped to your region, your team size and the scope you actually need. No obligation, nothing to install first, and no pressure to decide on the call. Reach out and tell us what you are trying to fix.
