ISO 3452 Penetrant Testing

ISO 3452 is the international standard series for liquid penetrant testing, defining general principles, materials testing, equipment, and reference test blocks for both Type I (fluorescent) and Type II (visible) penetrant systems.

Definition

ISO 3452-1 covers general principles, ISO 3452-2 covers penetrant materials testing, and ISO 3452-3 covers reference test blocks. It is the European counterpart to ASME Section V Article 6 and ASTM E165.

The common misuse

Mixing systems: qualifying materials to ISO 3452 sensitivity classes but accepting against a specification written around ASTM levels. The class systems do not map one-to-one.
