ASME Section IX

ASME Section IX is the welding and brazing qualification code, defining requirements for Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder/operator performance qualification used by all ASME construction codes.

Definition

Section IX classifies welding variables as essential, supplementary essential, and non-essential, and defines which require requalification when changed. Although Section IX itself is not an NDT code, its PQR records require RT or UT acceptance and welder qualification is verified by RT or bend test.
