Two schemes, many clients, and a lot of paperwork

Indian NDT companies work across an unusually wide range of requirements. A fabricator in Vadodara exporting pressure vessels to a US client works to ASME and wants ASNT-certified technicians. A service company at a refinery shutdown in Jamnagar or Panipat faces client and consultant checks on every technician. A manpower supplier in Chennai or Hyderabad sends crews to the Gulf, where each client has its own rules. A boiler job needs IBR paperwork, a radiography crew needs AERB approvals, and PSU tenders ask for technician CVs and certificates at the bid stage.

In most companies all of this lives in Excel sheets, phone photos of certificates and paper files. It works until a tender deadline, an audit by a third-party inspection agency, or a shutdown where fifty technicians need checking in a week.

The Certificates app in Atlantis NDT ERP keeps every certification, vision test and exam record on the technician’s employee record. It computes each certificate’s status daily, creates a warning task 90 days before anything expires, and sends daily email alerts to the people you choose. Atlantis NDT has a team in Hyderabad and sets up the ERP for Indian NDT companies.

Atlantis NDT’s own training is based on ASNT SNT-TC-1A. The app records ISO 9712 and other certificates your technicians hold, but Atlantis does not train or certify for those schemes.

ASNT, ISO 9712 and IS 13805 certificates

Both major schemes are common in India. Many companies certify their technicians under an in-house SNT-TC-1A written practice, which suits export fabrication, US clients and the Middle East market. Others rely on third-party certification to ISO 9712, or its Indian counterpart IS 13805, through Indian certification schemes such as ISNT’s, or through PCN and other international bodies. Many experienced technicians hold both.

Each certification is its own record: scheme (SNT-TC-1A, CP-189, ISO 9712, PCN, CSWIP or other), level, method, certifying body, issue, expiry and renewal dates, industry sector, OJT hours, training hours, exam passed and attachments. Certificate templates per scheme hold validity in months, whether a vision test and exam are required, and minimum OJT and training hours.

For companies running an SNT-TC-1A written practice, examination sheets record general, specific and practical scores, the passing score (70% by default, adjustable to your written practice) and the exam files. When a client’s QA engineer or a third-party inspector asks how a technician was certified, the answer is on one screen.

The certifying body field helps with a common Indian situation: technicians joining with a certificate from a previous employer or a training institute. Under SNT-TC-1A, an employer-based certificate does not automatically carry over to a new employer. Recording the earlier certificate with its issuer, alongside the one you issue under your own practice, makes the history clear and keeps the audit trail honest.

Export fabricators and ASME code shops

Fabrication hubs around Vadodara, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Hyderabad build pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping spools and structural modules for export. Shops holding ASME certification work under the eye of an Authorized Inspector, and ASME Section V expects NDT personnel to be qualified to a written practice, typically one based on SNT-TC-1A. Overseas clients and their inspectors then sample personnel records during fabrication.

For these shops the written practice is the anchor. Certificate templates in the app carry its validity, vision, exam and hours rules. Examination sheets hold scores and papers. OJT and training hours on each record show how a trainee progressed to Level I and Level II. When the Authorized Inspector or a client auditor asks for records, they are in one place.

Atlantis NDT runs SNT-TC-1A-based NDT training for Level I, II and III candidates, and the hours completed can be recorded on each certificate. Many shops also employ welding inspectors holding CSWIP or AWS certificates for client inspections; these can be recorded under the CSWIP scheme or as other-scheme certificates on the same employee record.

IBR and boiler work

Boilers and boiler components in India are governed by the Indian Boiler Regulations, with inspection and approval by state boiler inspectorates and recognised inspecting authorities. NDT of boiler welds, especially radiography, is reviewed as part of that process, and power plant, sugar mill, process industry and boiler manufacturer clients expect the NDT personnel on the job to be properly qualified and documented.

In the Certificates app, the technician’s NDT certificate sits alongside any approval or recognition that a client or inspecting authority asks for, recorded as an other-scheme certificate with its expiry and scan. When a boiler inspector or a client’s QA engineer asks for the radiographer’s credentials, your team pulls them from one record.

Your NDT procedures for IBR work, written to the applicable requirements and approved by your Level III, can be controlled in the Procedures app with revision history and an approval workflow, so the procedure a technician worked to and the certificate they held are both traceable.

PESO, pressure vessels and petroleum installations

PESO, the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation, regulates pressure vessels for compressed gases under the SMPV(U) Rules, gas cylinders, and petroleum storage and handling installations. Fabricators of LPG bullets, storage vessels and cryogenic tanks, and service companies inspecting depots and terminals, work within that framework, usually with a third-party inspection agency checking the NDT.

These jobs tend to come with document reviews before and during fabrication. TPI engineers and client inspectors want to see the technician’s certificate, level and method, and often a current vision test. With everything attached to the technician’s record, your QA team can answer those requests immediately instead of searching files and phones.

Company certifications matter here as well. ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and any approvals your clients require can be tracked as company certifications with their own alert days, so a lapse doesn’t surface in the middle of a tender or an inspection.

Radiography: AERB licensing, RSOs and TLD badges

Industrial radiography in India is regulated by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board. Companies need AERB licences for their radiography sources and a Radiological Safety Officer approved by AERB, radiographers must hold the required radiography certification, and everyone working with sources is monitored with personal dosimeters, typically TLD badges from an accredited personnel monitoring service. Source movement, storage and transport all fall under AERB’s oversight.

On the technician’s NDT profile, the Certificates app records radiation safety training, radiation badge number and medical fitness expiry, alongside highest level and methods certified. Radiographer and RSO certifications can be recorded as other-scheme certificates with expiry dates and scans, so they are warned 90 days out like any NDT certificate. The badge number keeps the link between a person and their dose records clear.

The Fleet app records whether a vehicle can carry radioactive sources and its transport licence number and expiry. The ERP does not replace your AERB licence records or regulatory submissions; it keeps your radiographers’ qualifications and radiation-related dates in one place for the RSO to check before a crew leaves for site.

Refineries, PSUs and tender pre-qualification

India’s large refineries and petrochemical complexes, from Jamnagar to Panipat, Paradip, Kochi, Mumbai and Visakhapatnam, run major shutdowns that rely on contract NDT crews. Public sector owners such as IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, ONGC and GAIL, often with consultants such as EIL acting as project management consultant, buy much of their inspection work through tenders.

Those tenders typically ask for technician CVs and qualification certificates at bid stage, and site teams check them again at mobilisation. Missing or expired documents can weaken a bid or delay a crew. With certificates, vision tests and attachments on each technician’s record, building a tender annexure becomes a matter of filtering the right people and collecting their files.

Shutdowns follow. Crews expand, short-term technicians join, and everyone needs checking. Warning tasks generated 90 days ahead let renewals for your core crew be pulled forward before the shutdown, and new arrivals’ certificates are entered on hire so they appear in the same lists and alerts. Timesheets act as a backstop: if hours are logged for a technician whose certificate is not valid, the timesheet shows a warning before the hours are approved and billed.

Planners using the Team Assignments app get blocking of double-booked technicians and equipment and warnings on out-of-calibration equipment; a certificate check at dispatch can be added in your customization scope.

Vision tests

SNT-TC-1A calls for an annual near-vision test at J2, and ISO 9712 calls for J1, both with colour vision checks. In India these are usually done by an ophthalmologist or an optometry clinic, and the certificate format varies widely from one clinic to the next.

Vision tests are separate records in the app: near vision (J1 or J2), far vision, colour perception, contrast, examiner, clinic, certificate file and expiry. The daily check creates a warning task 90 days before each test expires. Recording J1 or J2 shows which scheme a test satisfies, which matters for technicians holding both ASNT and ISO 9712 certificates. Colour perception results matter for PT and colour-contrast MT.

For manpower suppliers sending technicians to Gulf clients, a current vision test and a complete certificate pack before departure avoids a technician being turned away at the client’s document review after a costly flight.

Personal data under the DPDP Act

Technician records include personal data, and vision and medical results are sensitive. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 sets out duties for organisations handling personal data, including using it for a clear purpose, protecting it and limiting access.

In Atlantis NDT ERP, certificates, vision tests and NDT profiles sit on the employee record and access rights apply. During implementation we agree who sees full vision and medical details, typically HR and the QA manager, and who sees only certification status, such as planners and site supervisors. This supports your obligations; it does not replace your own data protection policies.

Who uses it in an Indian NDT company

Everyone works from the same record, entered once, instead of each person keeping their own Excel sheet.

How it connects and what setup looks like

Certificates links to the rest of Atlantis NDT ERP. Dashboards show certificates expiring and expired next to calibration due and overdue. Daily email alerts cover technician certificates, calibration certificates and company certifications, with recipients, look-ahead days and resend intervals you set. GST invoicing is configured locally during implementation in the Invoicing app.

A typical Indian setup covers templates for your SNT-TC-1A written practice, ISO 9712 and IS 13805 certificates, AERB radiographer and RSO certifications, and client-specific approvals; import of your current Excel tracker with scans attached; alerts for QA, the RSO and operations; access rights for health data; and links to the apps you use. Reports signed in the NDT Reports app, and results placed on 3D asset models through Atlantis’s separate Digital Twin Reporting Software, rest on these records.

Frequently asked questions

Can the app track both ASNT and ISO 9712 certificates?

Yes. Each certificate is its own record with its own scheme, level, method, certifying body and dates, so a technician can hold both with separate status.

Can we record AERB radiographer and RSO certifications?

Yes, as other-scheme certificates with expiry dates and scans. Radiation safety training and radiation badge number are on the technician’s NDT profile.

Does Atlantis NDT train for ISO 9712 or ISNT certification?

No. Atlantis NDT’s training is based on ASNT SNT-TC-1A. The app records ISO 9712 and other certificates issued by their own bodies.

Will it help with PSU tender documentation?

It keeps each technician’s certificates, vision tests and scans on one record, so you can filter the right people and collect their files for a tender annexure quickly.

How early are we warned about expiring certificates?

Certificates show as expiring soon 90 days before expiry, with warning tasks for certificates and vision tests at the same point. Email alert look-ahead days and resend intervals are configurable.

Can we track our company’s ISO and vendor approvals?

Yes. Company certifications are tracked with their own alert days and included in the daily email alerts.

Built for any business that runs on operations

Most companies do not fail at their craft. They lose time, margin and goodwill in the gaps between the tools they use to run the place — a quoting spreadsheet that does not talk to the job sheet, a job sheet that does not reach accounts, and a compliance folder nobody can search when a client asks. Atlantis closes those gaps by putting the whole operation on one platform, so information is entered once and everything downstream stays in step.

What you can run on it

  • Sales and CRM — leads, quotes, follow-ups and the pipeline that tells you what next month looks like.
  • Projects and job costing — plan the work, track the hours and materials against it, and see the margin while the job is still live rather than at final account.
  • Field and service teams — dispatch, schedules, mobile capture that works with no signal, and sign-off from site.
  • Inventory and purchasing — stock, suppliers, reorder points and goods receipt, joined to the jobs that consume them.
  • People — records, qualifications and licences with renewal reminders, timesheets, leave and payroll.
  • Quality and documents — procedures and forms under revision control, with the audit trail an inspection or accreditation body actually asks for.
  • Accounts — invoicing, expenses, multi-currency and the reporting your accountant stops chasing you for.

Affordable, accessible, fully customizable — and we mean each word

Affordable because the whole suite is included rather than sold to you a module at a time, and because implementation is done by people who have run operations rather than by a chain of subcontractors. Accessible because it runs in a browser and on a phone, works for a small team on day one, and does not need a specialist on staff to keep it alive. Fully customizable because your process is the thing that makes you competitive — the software should bend to it, not the other way round.

Industries we configure for

Service businesses and contractors, manufacturing and fabrication, trading and distribution, laboratories and testing houses, engineering consultancies, construction and facilities, and asset owners across energy, marine, aerospace and infrastructure. Inspection and testing is where we started, and it remains the sector we go deepest in — but the platform underneath is general-purpose, and most of what it does has nothing to do with inspection at all.

What happens when you get in touch

A short conversation, not a sales sequence. We ask how the business runs today and where it hurts, show you the platform doing that work, and send a written quote shaped to your region, your team size and the scope you actually need. No obligation, nothing to install first, and no pressure to decide on the call. Reach out and tell us what you are trying to fix.
