Immersion Testing (Immersion UT)
Immersion ultrasonic testing places the probe and test piece in a water tank; water provides constant coupling and enables precise focused-beam scanning of complex geometries, common in aerospace and tube manufacturing.
Definition
Immersion UT submerges the probe and part in water, using the water as both couplant and as a controllable standoff. Focused immersion probes can be positioned precisely above the test surface to achieve very tight focal spots.
