Employer-based SNT-TC-1A training and an independent ISO 9712 certification pathway have different responsibilities. Confirm which route your employer or client accepts, the method and sector scope, eligibility evidence and the examination body. An RT Level II under ASNT or ISO 9712 qualifies interpretation; AERB approval through the e-LORA system authorises the person and the source. AERB approval is a licence to possess and expose a source, not a competence certificate, and no ASNT or ISO 9712 certificate substitutes for it. Companies discover this when a mobilised crew is stopped at the gate.

Does an ASNT certificate earned at one Indian employer transfer to the next?

No. SNT-TC-1A certification is issued by the employer against its own written practice and ends at resignation. The new employer re-examines and re-certifies. Training records and documented experience hours do carry across and count toward eligibility, so keep the originals. ISO 9712 is the portable alternative, which is why inspectors planning to move between contractors hold both.

What experience does API 510 or API 570 require before an Indian candidate can apply?

One year of documented vessel or piping inspection with an engineering or technology degree, two years with a two-year technical diploma, three years with a higher secondary certificate, five years with no formal education. The experience must be inspection work performed or supervised — years spent in maintenance, operations or rotating equipment count for nothing on the application.

Which certification do Aramco and ADNOC contractor pre-qualification forms name?

Third-party certification — ISO 9712 or equivalent — for NDT technicians, and API ICP for inspector roles, followed by the client's own screening. Saudi Aramco and ADNOC each run contractor approval processes that add a written and practical test administered by or for the client, so the certificate gets a candidate onto the list rather than onto the site.

How is ISO 9712 certification renewed?

Five years of validity, then renewal on evidence of continued work in the method without significant interruption plus a current vision examination. At the end of the second five-year period, recertification requires a practical examination for Levels 1 and 2. Level 3 recertification runs through a structured credit system or examination. Missing the renewal date restarts the process.

Do HAL, ISRO and Boeing's Indian suppliers accept ASNT certification?

Aerospace runs on NAS 410 in the United States and EN 4179 in Europe, both employer-based schemes requiring a qualified NDT Level 3 responsible for the programme and prime-contractor approval of that programme. An ASNT certificate maps closely and is widely used as the underlying qualification, and on its own it does not satisfy a prime's supplier audit.

What does an ISO 17020 or ISO 9001 audit ask an Indian inspection company for?

The written practice or certification scheme document, personnel qualification records with training hours, experience hours, graded examinations and vision results, equipment calibration certificates traceable to national standards, approved procedures under revision control, and evidence that the revision applied on the inspection date is retrievable. Impartiality and confidentiality arrangements are examined separately under ISO 17020.
