A Level III is the only level authorised to approve NDT procedures, author or approve an employer written practice, and administer the examinations by which Level I and Level II technicians are qualified under ASNT SNT-TC-1A. What is an ASNT NDT Level III authorised to do?
A Level III approves NDT procedures, authors or approves the employer written practice, and administers the examinations by which Level I and Level II technicians are qualified. Under SNT-TC-1A the employer certifies its own personnel, and the Level III supplies the technical authority behind that certification.
Which methods is this reviewer certified in?
Six: ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing, magnetic particle testing, liquid penetrant testing, visual testing and eddy current testing. Method-specific certification matters because a Level III may only approve procedures and qualify personnel in the methods they themselves hold.
Why does a named technical reviewer matter on NDT guidance?
Certification, code and inspection content carries real consequences — a wrong training-hour figure or acceptance criterion propagates into a personnel file or an inspection report. A named reviewer holding the relevant certification is accountable for what the page claims.
Can an outside Level III certify our technicians?
No. Under SNT-TC-1A certification is employer-based, so your company issues and signs the certificates. An outside Level III authors or approves the written practice, prepares and grades examinations and approves procedures, while the certifying body remains the employer.
What is API 653 certification?
API 653 certifies inspectors to evaluate aboveground storage tanks for integrity, and to specify repairs and alterations. It is granted by the American Petroleum Institute under its Individual Certification Programs and is independent of the ASNT level ladder.
