ASNT NDT Level III preparation for Portland candidates, and who hires Level IIIs locally
Candidates in Portland prepare for the ASNT NDT Level III the same way candidates do everywhere. The national route, step by step. The ASNT NDT Level III is a central certification issued by ASNT, not by your employer. It starts with the Basic examination, which covers SNT-TC-1A and the other personnel standards, materials and processes, and general familiarity with other methods. Each method examination, such as UT, RT, MT, PT or VT, adds that method to the certificate. ASNT publishes the education and experience you need before you may sit, and it sets its own examination charges, so check its current rules before you book. Many employer written practices then use the ASNT certificate as the evidence behind the person they name as Level III. Who hires Level IIIs around Portland. Vigor Marine Group, formed in 2025 from Vigor Industrial and its sister companies, is headquartered in Portland. Its original yard is on Swan Island, with three dry docks, including The Vigorous, a 960-foot floating dry dock delivered in 2014. Ship repair at that scale needs someone who owns the procedures, answers the surveyor, and approves subcontracted inspection. Fuel is a second source of jobs. Most of Oregon's petroleum products come from Washington refineries by the Olympic Pipeline and by barge.
