UT training covers sound propagation, probe selection, calibration, DAC and TCG, angle-beam weld scanning and flaw evaluation, with additional practice on thickness measurement over corroded and hot surfaces, which is the first job most new Port Arthur technicians are given. PAUT and TOFD cover focal laws, scan plans, encoded collection and analysis for technicians already strong in conventional UT, and are where Level IIs move up in value. Radiographer certification in Texas. Texas is an NRC Agreement State, and industrial radiography is licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services Radiation Control Program under 25 TAC §289.255. Texas certifies industrial radiographers itself: a trainee needs a DSHS-issued trainee status card, a radiation safety course meeting the rule, and documented supervised on-the-job training under a radiographer trainer before sitting for certification, and Texas accepts certifications from certain recognised entities through a reciprocity process. This is entirely separate from SNT-TC-1A certification in RT. Our RT courses teach the method and interpretation; they do not replace DSHS radiographer certification. Louisiana, next door, is also an Agreement State with its own rules, so check reciprocity before crossing the river.
What local employers ask for. Documented Level II in UT and at least one other method, PAUT for higher-value roles, a current vision test, TWIC and plant safety credentials, and availability for turnaround rotations.
