Dual-Element Probe

A dual-element (TR) probe contains two piezoelectric elements — one transmit and one receive — separated by an acoustic barrier, used to eliminate the dead zone and improve near-surface and thin-wall inspection.

Definition

A dual-element probe (also called TR, twin-crystal, or sender-receiver probe) has separate transmit and receive elements mounted at slight roof angles. The geometric crossover of the beams creates a focal zone close to the surface, virtually eliminating the dead zone.
