Prepare a useful radiographic examination scope
Provide the material, section thickness, weld or component drawing and the required image coverage. State whether the project permits film, computed radiography or digital detector techniques, and identify the controlling acceptance document.
Understand the technique limitations
Source and detector access, object geometry and discontinuity orientation affect what an image can show. Radiography uses ionising radiation. An appropriately authorised provider must plan radiation protection and access controls under the applicable local requirements. A service enquiry is not a radiation-safety plan.
Specify the records and review
Agree image identification, image-quality evidence, interpretation responsibilities and retention before work starts. The report should identify the areas imaged and any limitations; a retained image does not establish coverage of an entire component.
