NDT Career Guide

Complete guide to starting and advancing in an NDT career. Certification paths, salary expectations, and career progression advice.

Turn the pay data into a plan

Pay in NDT follows certification level, method and documented hours. Atlantis trains to ASNT SNT-TC-1A, led by an ASNT NDT Level III, and Practical NDT gives you scan practice on a 3D simulator before you reach a real job.

Start with the work you want to perform and the qualification scheme your intended employer uses. Course completion, industrial experience, examination and authorisation are separate steps.

Choose a route from the job requirements

Read current job descriptions in your target region and list the methods, levels and sector requirements that recur. Ask employers whether they use an employer-based programme or require independent certification. A course advertised as “Level II” does not by itself establish that you meet either route.

Choose a method because it is relevant to the work and you can obtain suitable practical training and supervised experience. Compare course scope, instructor support, practical access and examination arrangements before paying.

Keep records from the beginning

Retain training records, examination results and documented experience with enough detail for the responsible reviewer to assess them. Record the employer, method, duties, dates and supervision required by the applicable scheme.

Atlantis courses are primarily self-paced, with year-round enrolment and Level III clarification support. Confirm practical sessions and assessment arrangements separately. Use a pathway consultation to identify gaps in your existing evidence before selecting the next course.
