What is the difference between NDT reporting software and an NDT ERP?

Reporting software produces the examination record. An NDT ERP holds the business around it — clients, quotes, jobs, dispatch, technician certifications, equipment calibration, procedure document control, invoicing — and populates the report header automatically. A reporting-only tool must be integrated with all of that or your team retypes job data every shift. An ERP without NDT-specific report templates fails the opposite way.

How do I test offline mode during a software demo?

Put the device in airplane mode before the demo starts, then create a job, attach photos and instrument data, complete a full report and close the app. Restore connectivity and confirm the record syncs without loss or duplication. Vendors whose offline mode is a read-only cache or a single queued form will reveal it in under five minutes.

Can reporting software stop a lapsed technician from signing a report?

Yes, when certification records live in the same system as the report. The system holds method, level, expiry, vision-exam date and the written-practice basis under SNT-TC-1A, CP-189 or ISO 9712, and refuses the signature once currency has lapsed. Where certification sits in a separate spreadsheet, nothing enforces it and client auditors find the gap first.

Do generic form builders work for NDT reports?

They work for the first template and fail at the tenth. A generic builder has no concept of calibration blocks, focal laws, IQI sensitivity, technique sheets or code-clause acceptance, so your Level III rebuilds each method from scratch and maintains it forever. Nominal support for everything means native support for nothing — budget the Level III hours before choosing this route.

What do client and accreditation auditors ask to see first?

Four things: that the person who performed the work was qualified in that method and level at the time, that the equipment was in calibration on that date, that the procedure revision followed was the one in force, and that all of it can be produced on request. The difference at audit is retrieving evidence versus reconstructing it.

Can we get our data out if we leave the vendor?

Ask before signing, and treat a vague answer as an answer. Examination records are your clients' inspection history and your own liability defence, so the export must be complete, structured and self-service rather than a paid extraction project. Confirm the formats, whether attachments and images come with it, and how long access persists after termination.
