NDT for Aerospace Industry

Expert NDT consulting and training for aerospace. Aircraft structural inspection, composite NDT, engine component testing, NAS-410 written practices, and NADCAP audit preparation by ASNT Level III certified professionals.

Aerospace NDT requirements depend on the part, material, manufacturing or maintenance stage, and the controlling customer documents. A list of methods alone is not an inspection plan.

Identify the controlling documents

Start with the part number, drawing revision, process specification and any customer-approved technique requirements. Establish who approves procedures and personnel, and whether the work falls within a manufacturing or maintenance quality system.

Magnetic-particle testing applies to ferromagnetic materials. Penetrant testing addresses accessible surface-breaking discontinuities on suitable nonporous surfaces. Ultrasonic, eddy-current and radiographic examinations answer different questions and require a technique suited to the part.

Keep qualification and acceptance separate

A personnel certificate does not replace the employer’s authorisation or the customer’s process approval. Likewise, a method standard may describe how to examine a part without providing the acceptance limits for that particular component.

Before booking training or review work, provide the intended method, level, sector and governing personnel scheme. Agree practical equipment and specimen needs, examination responsibilities and the records required for the employer’s decision.
