NDT Inspection Management Software for Inspection Companies in Sweden

Short answer: The Atlantis ERP solution is a fully customized ERP for NDT and inspection companies working in Sweden. It records EN ISO 9712 certificates beside ASNT SNT-TC-1A and CP-189 records with automatic expiry status, keeps calibration evidence for every instrument and probe, controls procedure revisions, plans crews for nuclear outages, steel works, refineries, pulp mills and fabrication shops, captures reports offline and takes each job from quotation to invoice. Implementation is remote and typically takes 2 to 4 weeks from kickoff, depending on how clean your existing records are. Affordable. Accessible. Fully customizable. See a demo for Sweden.

Sweden is a demanding place to run an NDT company. Its nuclear plants operate under some of the most formal inspection qualification rules in Europe. Its steel, mining and pulp industries run large, hot, heavy equipment that wears out in predictable and unpredictable ways. Its aerospace and automotive manufacturers expect traceability down to the probe serial number. And the distances are real: a crew may finish an outage on the east coast and drive a day north to a steel works or a hydropower station. In each of those settings the question an auditor or client asks is the same: who did this test, were they certified, was the equipment calibrated, which procedure revision applied, and who approved the result? This page explains how the Atlantis ERP answers that question and what else to look for.

Sweden's NDT market by region and industry

Direct answer: Swedish NDT work is concentrated in nuclear power (Forsmark, Oskarshamn and Ringhals), steel and specialty metals (Luleå, Borlänge, Oxelösund, Avesta, Sandviken and Hofors), refining on the west coast (Lysekil and Gothenburg), mining in the north, pulp and paper along the Bothnian coast, hydropower in the northern rivers, and aerospace, defence and automotive manufacturing in the south and west.

Nuclear. Sweden's operating reactors are at Forsmark north of Stockholm, Oskarshamn on the Småland coast and Ringhals south of Gothenburg. Annual outages bring concentrated in-service inspection of reactor components, piping and welds, and each of those inspections has to follow qualified procedures and personnel rules. Nuclear work also brings strict demands for documentation, change control and record retention.

Steel and specialty metals. SSAB produces steel at Luleå, Borlänge and Oxelösund; Outokumpu makes stainless steel at Avesta; Alleima at Sandviken and Ovako at Hofors and elsewhere make tube, wire and engineering steels. These plants need inspection of their own process equipment (furnaces, cranes, rolling mills, pressure equipment) and often product testing as well, from ultrasonic testing of plate and bar to eddy current testing of tube.

Refining and chemicals. Preem runs refineries at Lysekil and Gothenburg, and Gothenburg also has St1's refinery and a cluster of energy and chemical terminals around the port. Stenungsund, north of Gothenburg, is Sweden's main petrochemical cluster. Turnarounds at these sites are the classic large NDT jobs: many technicians, many methods, short windows.

Mining, pulp and paper, and hydropower. LKAB's iron ore operations at Kiruna and Malmberget and Boliden's mines and smelters in the north run heavy structural and rotating equipment. Pulp and paper mills along the coast operate recovery boilers and digesters where tube thickness surveys and weld inspection are routine. Hydropower stations on the northern rivers have penstocks, gates and turbines that need periodic inspection.

Aerospace, defence and automotive. Saab builds aircraft at Linköping, GKN Aerospace makes engine components at Trollhättan, Saab Kockums builds submarines and naval vessels at Karlskrona, and Volvo and Scania run large vehicle and engine plants around Gothenburg and Södertälje. Aerospace NDT is typically certified under EN 4179 or NAS 410 and audited closely by primes and Nadcap.

What Swedish clients and regulators expect from NDT companies

Direct answer: Clients expect EN ISO 9712 certification (plus EN 4179 or NAS 410 in aerospace and ASNT-based certification on US-code work), approved and controlled procedures, calibrated equipment, signed and reviewed reports, and often accreditation by Swedac. Nuclear work adds qualification of NDT systems; pressure equipment work adds accredited inspection bodies under Arbetsmiljöverket rules.

Nuclear. The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (Strålsäkerhetsmyndigheten, SSM) regulates nuclear safety and has long required that non-destructive testing of reactor components and connected piping be performed with qualified inspection systems: the procedure, equipment and personnel together are evaluated by an independent qualification body. The Swedish Qualification Centre (SQC) has carried out this qualification work since the 1990s. An NDT company working in Swedish nuclear plants therefore has to keep very precise records of which technician is qualified on which procedure and technique, alongside their ordinary certificates.

Pressure equipment. The Swedish Work Environment Authority (Arbetsmiljöverket) sets the rules for using and inspecting pressure equipment; since 1 January 2025 they have been in AFS 2023:11. Equipment in the higher control classes must be inspected by an inspection body accredited by Swedac. NDT companies supply much of the testing behind those inspections, so the inspection body will expect certificates, procedures and calibration evidence to be clean and quickly available. New pressure equipment for the European market falls under the Pressure Equipment Directive, which requires third-party approval of NDT personnel for category III and IV equipment.

Accreditation. Swedac accredits laboratories and inspection bodies to ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 17020, and many Swedish clients buy only from accredited providers. The ERP does not grant accreditation, but it holds the competence records, calibration traceability, procedure control and report review evidence an assessor looks for.

US codes. US-owned plants, suppliers to US primes and fabricators building to ASME or AWS often ask for ASNT-based certification under the employer's written practice. That is the side of the work Atlantis knows best; see employer certification programmes.

What the Atlantis ERP does for Swedish NDT companies

Direct answer: The Atlantis ERP tracks certificates and vision tests, controls instrument calibration and issue, keeps a procedure register with locked approved revisions, dispatches crews, captures method-specific reports offline and bills the work. The table maps common Swedish needs to built-in features; anything not listed is configured during implementation.

Certificates, qualifications and eye tests: one register for EN ISO 9712 and ASNT

Direct answer: Each certificate or qualification is a separate record, so an EN ISO 9712 Level 2 in UT, an SNT-TC-1A certification in UT and a procedure qualification for a nuclear outage can all sit on one technician's profile with separate dates and alerts. Annual vision tests have their own records.

Swedish technicians usually hold EN ISO 9712 certificates from an accredited certification body. Aerospace technicians are commonly certified under EN 4179 by their employer, and some technicians carry SNT-TC-1A or CP-189 certification for US work or PCN certificates from time in the UK. The certificate record captures scheme, level (trainee, I, II or III), method, certifying body, industry sector, issue, expiry and renewal dates, OJT and training hours, exam result and attachments. Certificate templates per scheme define validity in months, whether a vision test or exam is required, and minimum OJT and training hours.

Vision tests are recorded with near vision (Jaeger J1/J2), far vision, colour perception, contrast, examiner, clinic, certificate file and expiry. The employee's NDT profile shows highest level, methods certified, radiation safety training, radiation badge number and medical fitness expiry. Daily checks create warning tasks 90 days before any certificate or vision test expires, and configurable daily email alerts go to the people you choose with the look-ahead you set. Timesheets warn when someone books time while their certificate is not valid, which is exactly the check an outage manager wants to see.

For companies running their own employer certification, the ERP keeps exam sheets with general, specific and practical scores against the passing score. Atlantis trains to ASNT SNT-TC-1A only and does not train toward EN ISO 9712 certificates, but the ERP stores every scheme your staff hold.

Radiography, data protection and invoicing in Sweden

Direct answer: SSM also regulates radiation protection, including industrial radiography with sealed sources and X-ray equipment. Personal data in technician records falls under GDPR, supervised in Sweden by IMY. Invoicing, Swedish VAT and any public-sector e-invoicing requirements are configured during implementation.

Radiography companies need to show that their sources, equipment, vehicles and people are under control. The ERP tracks source-related equipment by serial number with issue, return and movement records; employee profiles hold radiation safety training and dose badge numbers; and fleet records show whether a vehicle may carry radioactive sources, its transport licence number and expiry, and its assignment to a project and driver. Your radiation protection programme and permits remain your own documents, but they can be stored as company certifications with alert days so renewals are not missed.

Technician records include eye tests, medical fitness and dose data, which is personal data under GDPR. Hosting location, role-based access and retention periods are discussed during scoping and configured during implementation. Swedish public-sector bodies generally require electronic invoices; if you invoice them, raise the format during scoping. Taxes, payment terms and reminders are configured per country during implementation, and invoices can be laid out in Swedish or English.

A Swedish-language user interface is discussed during scoping. Many Swedish NDT teams work comfortably in English, especially those who work on export or nuclear projects with international vendors, but it is a fair question to settle early.

Outages, turnarounds and the field: how crews and kit are planned

Direct answer: The ERP shows who is free, blocks double-booking of technicians and instruments, warns on out-of-calibration equipment at assignment, and lets technicians write reports offline inside containment, in a mill or at a remote hydro station and sync them later.

Outages and turnarounds are where NDT companies make or lose their year. The technician availability calendar holds assigned, leave, training, sick and unavailable days, and overlaps are blocked. Each technician shows status, current assignment, utilisation and next available date, so a supervisor planning a spring outage can see in minutes who is free and certified for the methods needed. Team assignments move through planned, dispatched, in field, submitted and closed, with site GPS coordinates and mobilisation and demobilisation dates, in calendar, kanban and list views.

Equipment is issued and returned with supervisor and manager approval and condition recorded both ways. The maintenance log captures preventive and corrective work, cleaning, firmware updates and probe replacement. Consumables such as couplant, penetrant, developer and magnetic ink are tracked with reorder levels and a movement ledger. Purchase orders can be linked to a specific equipment serial, and vendors can be flagged as OEM, dealer or calibration lab, with accredited-lab flags, accreditation numbers and expiry.

In the field, the installable offline app handles method selection, readings, photos, on-screen signature and PDF preview without a connection. Reports carry the work order, request, WPS, contract, drawing, procedure and standard references, then pass through review and approval in the office before they are sent. Implementation for a Swedish inspection company

Direct answer: Implementation is remote and typically takes 2 to 4 weeks from kickoff. The deciding factor is how clean your records are: certificates and qualifications, instrument and calibration registers, procedures, clients and report templates.

The work runs in four steps. Scoping agrees the apps, certification schemes, client report formats, invoicing setup, language and data questions. Data collection gathers what you already have, in whatever shape it is in. Configuration sets up certificate templates per scheme, alert rules, procedure register and workflow, report templates with your branding, quotation and invoice layouts, VAT and payment terms, and user roles. Training is short and role-based, followed by live jobs with support.

Nuclear and aerospace suppliers usually have tidier records than average, because their clients force it, so they often reach the shorter end of the range. Companies with years of certificates in email inboxes take longer, and the clean-up is worth doing anyway. Groups with several entities or integrations agree a longer plan during scoping. See the implementation timeline for detail.

Integrations with SAP, Maximo, NetSuite, QuickBooks and others

Direct answer: The Atlantis ERP has an open REST API and integrates with SAP, Maximo, NetSuite, QuickBooks or any system that accepts API connections. Each integration is scoped per implementation.

Large Swedish industrial owners commonly run SAP or Maximo for maintenance, and an NDT contractor that can receive work-order numbers or return report references automatically saves its own office and its client's planners a lot of retyping. Some companies want to keep an existing finance system and send approved invoices or timesheet totals to it. The REST API for field devices exposes the jobs assigned to a technician, the equipment issued to them, report submission and sync. See the integration matrix for typical exchanges.

Spreadsheets vs generic ERP vs Atlantis ERP in Sweden

Direct answer: Spreadsheets fail quietly: an expiry date nobody saw, a probe nobody recalibrated. Generic ERP handles accounts but needs custom work for NDT records. The Atlantis ERP starts with certificates, calibration, procedures and NDT reports built in.

Built for any business that runs on operations

Most companies do not fail at their craft. They lose time, margin and goodwill in the gaps between the tools they use to run the place — a quoting spreadsheet that does not talk to the job sheet, a job sheet that does not reach accounts, and a compliance folder nobody can search when a client asks. Atlantis closes those gaps by putting the whole operation on one platform, so information is entered once and everything downstream stays in step.

What you can run on it

  • Sales and CRM — leads, quotes, follow-ups and the pipeline that tells you what next month looks like.
  • Projects and job costing — plan the work, track the hours and materials against it, and see the margin while the job is still live rather than at final account.
  • Field and service teams — dispatch, schedules, mobile capture that works with no signal, and sign-off from site.
  • Inventory and purchasing — stock, suppliers, reorder points and goods receipt, joined to the jobs that consume them.
  • People — records, qualifications and licences with renewal reminders, timesheets, leave and payroll.
  • Quality and documents — procedures and forms under revision control, with the audit trail an inspection or accreditation body actually asks for.
  • Accounts — invoicing, expenses, multi-currency and the reporting your accountant stops chasing you for.

Affordable, accessible, fully customizable — and we mean each word

Affordable because the whole suite is included rather than sold to you a module at a time, and because implementation is done by people who have run operations rather than by a chain of subcontractors. Accessible because it runs in a browser and on a phone, works for a small team on day one, and does not need a specialist on staff to keep it alive. Fully customizable because your process is the thing that makes you competitive — the software should bend to it, not the other way round.

Industries we configure for

Service businesses and contractors, manufacturing and fabrication, trading and distribution, laboratories and testing houses, engineering consultancies, construction and facilities, and asset owners across energy, marine, aerospace and infrastructure. Inspection and testing is where we started, and it remains the sector we go deepest in — but the platform underneath is general-purpose, and most of what it does has nothing to do with inspection at all.

What happens when you get in touch

A short conversation, not a sales sequence. We ask how the business runs today and where it hurts, show you the platform doing that work, and send a written quote shaped to your region, your team size and the scope you actually need. No obligation, nothing to install first, and no pressure to decide on the call. Reach out and tell us what you are trying to fix.
