Eddy Current Testing (ET) Services in Phoenix 2026 — ASNT Level III Led
Atlantis NDT delivers professional Eddy Current Testing (ET) inspection services in Phoenix from ASNT NDT Level II + III certified inspectors. Specialising in heat exchanger tube inspection, surface crack detection and conductivity testing. ET demand around Phoenix comes mainly from semiconductor, aerospace & solar. Technicians are qualified to the governing SNT-TC-1A written practice, and procedures and reports are reviewed by an ASNT NDT Level III (UT, RT, MT, PT, VT). Where we work: nationwide. Technicians are mobilised to your site anywhere in the USA; apart from the Houston office there is no local office, so mobilisation is planned and quoted for each job.
Eddy Current Testing Method Overview
Eddy Current Testing (ET) is a core NDT method covered in detail at our ET pillar hub. Per ASME Section V, ASTM E-series, ISO 17635 + applicable method-specific standard. Atlantis NDT Level III approves every Procedure + signs off final disposition. Calibration block + reference standard traceable to NIST / NPL / PTB. Procedure pack + technique sheet + qualification block included.

Eddy current testing in Phoenix: tube bundles, aerospace parts and conductivity readings in the heat
Eddy current testing in Phoenix is used on heat-exchanger and chiller tubes, on aerospace components for surface cracks, and for electrical conductivity checks on aluminium alloys. Arizona heat matters more for ET than for most methods, because conductivity readings shift with part temperature. Atlantis plans Phoenix ET around reference standards, tube material and shutdown timing, then mobilises a crew from Houston.
Conductivity and temperature. The electrical conductivity of aluminium falls as its temperature rises, so a heat-treatment check taken on a sun-soaked part can read low and suggest an over-aged or heat-damaged alloy that is actually sound. ASTM E1004, the eddy current conductivity method, expects the reference standards and the part to be at the same known temperature or corrected to it. In Phoenix that means letting parts and standards equalise in shade or inside the hangar, recording the temperature, and never carrying standards from an air-conditioned case straight onto hot skin.
Tube work. Tube work in the Phoenix area spans chillers serving commercial and industrial buildings, condensers on generating units and process exchangers in manufacturing plants. Copper and cupronickel chiller tubes suit bobbin eddy current; carbon-steel boiler and exchanger tubes need remote field testing or IRIS tube inspection. Cooling towers concentrate dissolved solids as water evaporates, and the resulting scale and under-deposit pitting are typical water-side findings, which is why tube cleaning and a deposit sample belong in the plan.
Timing against Arizona inspections. Since July 2017, authorized third-party agencies have carried out Arizona's boiler certificate inspections. A power boiler opened for its annual internal is the natural window to test its tubes and those of any exchanger isolated at the same time, and owners who line the two up avoid paying for a second outage. The commissioned inspector decides on the boiler; tube plugging decisions on exchangers stay with the owner's engineer.
Keeping the instrument honest. Coil impedance drifts as a probe and its cable warm up, and an instrument left in direct sun can run past its rated operating temperature. On a long tube run in a hot plant room, calibration is therefore re-verified on the reference standard at the intervals the procedure sets and at the end of the run, and any tubes tested since the last good check are retested if the verification fails.
Questions settled before a Phoenix ET crew travels:
- Tube material, diameter, wall and length, and whether any tubes are finned or U-bent.
- For conductivity or surface work, which specification applies and whether temperature correction is acceptable or the part must be brought to room temperature.
- Shade, power and access at the work location, which in summer decide the working hours as much as the scope does.
Surface ET on aerospace parts, such as bolt holes, fastener rows and radii, runs to the OEM's procedure with NAS 410 personnel requirements; Atlantis covers NAS 410 Level 3 duties through an associate. The wider area is mapped on NDT inspection services in Phoenix, the national eddy current testing service lists probe options, and NDT consulting in Phoenix covers procedure work. Technicians can learn the method through eddy current testing training and the eddy current simulator. To plan ET in Phoenix, send the tube or part details.
Need eddy current testing (ET) done, or learned?
Atlantis provides eddy current testing (ET) as an inspection service, trains technicians in it, and lets teams practise it on the Practical NDT simulator.
Prepare a useful eddy-current examination scope
Confirm that the material is electrically conductive. Identify whether the task concerns surface cracking, tubing, material sorting or another defined application. Provide geometry, material condition, surface coating and expected access before selecting a probe and technique.
Understand the technique limitations
Reference standards, frequency, probe selection and lift-off affect the response. Geometry, conductivity and permeability changes can also produce signals. A setup developed for one component should not be assumed suitable for a different material or discontinuity orientation.
Specify the records and review
Record the reference standard, setup, coverage and limitations with the examination results. Retain the relevant signals and location references where the technique requires them. Confirm how ambiguous responses will be investigated and who makes the acceptance decision.
For background, see ASNT’s method overview. Discuss procedure and personnel requirements before confirming the work.
