Mobile is a naval yard town with a commercial repair yard attached
Austal USA has been building in Mobile since 1999 and expanded onto Blakeley Island in 2005. It now employs more than 3,000 people locally out of over 3,500 nationwide, operates roughly 1.5 million square feet of indoor manufacturing space, and has invested about a billion dollars in United States shipyard facilities. The port itself is a break bulk and bulk market
