What AVEVA PI System is genuinely good at

The PI System is the reference implementation for industrial time-series data, and it earned that position. For high-frequency process historian data — collecting it reliably, storing it at scale, retrieving it fast, and giving engineers tooling to analyse it — it is mature, widely deployed, and deeply integrated into control-system estates.
