For an offshore structure, plan the asset identifiers, coverage and evidence format before mobilisation. A long recording with uncertain location is difficult to compare with the next campaign.

Define the question for each location

Separate a visual condition survey from a thickness measurement, a marine-growth assessment or another instrumented task. State the component and area of interest, the required access and the expected deliverable. An ROV is a deployment platform; its presence does not establish the capability of the inspection sensor.

For quantitative examinations, agree the procedure, reference checks, positioning and contact requirements. Demonstrate that the proposed arrangement can collect usable data on the relevant geometry.

Plan for incomplete coverage

Visibility, current, obstructions and surface condition can limit the survey. Record those limits at the affected locations instead of giving the whole structure an undifferentiated “inspected” status. Establish the escalation route when access or data quality does not meet the plan.

Tie each observation to a component identifier and an understandable location reference. Retain contextual images as well as close views so a reviewer can identify the feature without relying on the pilot’s memory.

Deliver a record that supports follow-up

Issue an indexed finding register linked to video or image evidence, with the date, location, inspection technique and coverage limitation.
